What is the first thought that comes into your head when you hear the term “personal training”? For some, the idea sounds attractive because they understand it as a way to conquer their motivational shortcomings when it comes to getting into shape; a lot of us are good at starting a workout program, but then fizzle out a couple months into the program right when we are starting to see some results.

Others might just see a price tag associated with the concept of personal training. You might think you are able to afford a gym membership, but paying a personal trainer is just not in your budget right now. Maybe one day it will be, but there are other things that take precedence at the moment.

To that line of reasoning, we want to say (or write, more accurately) two things....

In recent posts, we’ve got a touch philosophical with our blogging. Between suggesting how to stay fit in your fitness routine and describing the unique benefits of personal training, we’ve enjoyed describing some of the little-known elements of the physical fitness journey.

However, life is meaningless if it’s not balanced. As such, we are going to hit you with a straightforward blog post describing the fitness classes we offer at our Warwick, RI gym, Pro Fitness RI.

It might not be the typical time of year when most of us dedicate ourselves to making resolutions, but it is likely the time when many of us lose steam on the “new year, new me” type of commitment we made to ourselves just half a year ago.

Yes, we are half-way through 2019 already, as strange as it may seem. For our part at Pro Fitness RI, your multipurpose health club and Warwick fitness center, this time of year is known as one thing and one thing only — beach season. Summer is well and truly upon us, and if you have been dedicated to your fitness regime at Pro Fitness RI, you just might be as excited as we are to get out in the sun!

However, this is not a blog dedicated to the joys of being fit on the beach, as fun as that sounds to write. Instead, we want to talk to...

Welcome back to the Pro Fitness RI blog! In case you need a refresher about what we’ve been addressing lately, our latest blog highlighted foods that are worth avoiding if you would like to prioritize losing belly fat. It’s not exactly a pleasant read, seeing as how most of the foods we attempt to dissuade you from consuming are, in fact, quite delicious. However, it is an important one, so make sure you check it out when you get the opportunity.

Before that, we took a more optimistic approach, when we discussed how getting fit at a Warwick gym could change your life. To be fair, we didn’t exactly have...

Welcome back to the Pro Fitness RI blog! In our last post, we highlighted just a few of the many benefits of working out in a group. Among said benefits were motivation. That is, being a part of a regular gym class typically lends itself to you getting to know your classmates and instructors. If you establish a community, or maybe just make a friend, you’ll be more likely to get yourself to the class on a regular basis!

It’s been a while since we’ve had the chance to blog. In recent posts, we’ve taken the opportunity to offer up some fall workout tips, a few exercising-with-allergies tips, with a post or two in there about how to identify the signs of electrolyte imbalance. We’d encourage you to go back and read all of our recent posts if you have the opportunity; they’re packed full of practical information to help you maximize the results of your workouts!

In our last blog, we explored a few great tips for staying active in the fall. After all, this is one of the few times of year when it isn’t burning hot or freezing cold, and it’s worth getting out there to enjoy it! We have a few more tips for you today.

The air is crisping up and the trees are starting to turn. We all know what that means: fall! For many athletes, fall is a fantastic time to work out and enjoy the new freshness in the air. However, it also means the sun sets earlier and the temperatures stay lower. How can you make the most of this unique season and not lose your motivation?

It’s a good idea to work on balancing your electrolytes is right after (or even during) a workout. However, you can work on your electrolyte balance all the time. It’s important to understand that there are several different types of electrolytes, and you need them all. Most people know about sodium which is an important electrolyte, but you also need magnesium, potassium, chloride, and calcium. The great news is, there are several strategies you can use to ensure your body really gets what it needs.

Any good workout will make you sweat, but summer workouts generally make people sweat more than ever. This means that there’s a bunch of people losing electrolytes at a higher rate than normal. We figured there’s no better time than late July to talk about what happens when your body loses electrolytes.

Electrolytes are found in bodily fluids, including your sweat. They earn their name by producing charged ions when dissolved in water. These ions allow your nerves to communicate, which, in turn, helps your body function correctly. Without the correct balance of electrolytes, Electrolyte imbalances come in different forms and can be caused by anything from hormonal imbalances to sickness to chemotherapy. One of the most common types of imbalance is caused by sweating combined with...

For many of us, summer is our most active time of year. Even though it can get a little toasty, there’s nothing like having the sun come up early when you need the motivation to get moving. However, unless you’re smart, summer workouts can really be the worst. At Pro Fitness, we are very familiar with the unique challenges that come with summer fitness, and we want to share some of our favorite tips.

Spring is here, which brings a mixed reaction from people. Some people are delighted to see Warwick’s plant life come back, but new leaves and blossoms make other people want to hide indoors. Why? Allergies. Nobody wants to be sneezing, coughing, and dealing with itchy eyes. It makes it difficult to function, much less work out. Luckily, you can work out indoors in our fitness center. We keep things cool, clean, and fresh so you can breathe hard without inhaling a bunch of pollen. That being said, if you love getting outside, forcing yourself to stay indoors can make spring more miserable than it needs to be.

As the weather gets warmer, people tend to want to get outside and get moving! Even if they just end up going to the gym more, there’s something about spring and summer that wakes people up. Maybe you worked out through the winter. Maybe you haven’t worked out in a while and you’re going to dig out your old gear. Either way, we’re headed into a great time of year to live your best, fit life.

In order to work out, you need gear. It doesn’t have to be very complex or expensive, but there are some basics that will make your workouts comfortable and effective. The most important pieces of gear you have are probably your shoes, especially if you’re a runner.

If you’re putting aside time to work out, you’re probably hoping to see results. The good news is, you probably will! However, chances are good that the results you’re seeing aren’t as great as they could be. A lot of workout success depends on how well you use your time. You can work out for an hour and see fewer results than someone who works out for twenty minutes. So what is the key to maximizing every one of those precious moments you dedicate to recreating yourself?
